Ngorongoro Conservation Area
A World of Wonders
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a unique and ecologically diverse destination in northern Tanzania. Encompassing over 8,292 square kilometers (3,202 square miles), it is renowned for its stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, and the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. The area is named after the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive and intact volcanic caldera, and offers visitors a chance to explore one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders.
Wildlife Haven
Often referred to as the “Garden of Eden,” the crater floor is home to approximately 25,000 large animals. Visitors can expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, and a variety of antelope species. The crater also boasts one of the highest densities of lion prides in Africa. Additionally, the area is a critical habitat for the endangered black rhinoceros, offering one of the best chances to see these rare creatures in the wild.

Olduvai Gorge
Known as the “Cradle of Mankind,” Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world. Archaeological discoveries here have provided invaluable insights into early human evolution. Visitors can explore the museum and see the fossils and tools that date back millions of years.
Empakaai Crater
A lesser-known gem, Empakaai Crater is a volcanic caldera that offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere. A trek down to the crater floor reveals a lake often visited by flamingos and other wildlife, providing a tranquil and picturesque setting.
Ndutu Region
The Ndutu region in the southern part of the conservation area is a prime spot to witness the Great Migration. Each year, vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles pass through this region, offering spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities.
